After a short rest back in the team Head quarter in Zhuhai, the Changan Ford Racing Team is travelling to Erdos in Inner Mongolia to prepare for the fourth race of the season. The team's morale is high after two consecutive wins in Zhuhai and Chengdu and is looking for another good result in Ordos in order to conclude the first half of the season in a good note.
The team is facing an uphill battle in Ordos after the Chengdu win. More weight will be added to both Rainey He and Andy Yan's cars. On top of the 40 kg added for the car model (Ford Focus is being penalized for being too good), Andy Yan has to carry another 100Kg setting his car's minimum weight at 1270 kg which is very close to the original weight of a production Focus. Rainey He is running with a weight of 1230 kg.
The technical team will have a hard time coming up with a solution to offset the issues contributed by this additional weight towards the brake, the suspension, the tire and the balance of the car.
Jiang Tengyi, who won the inaugurate Ordos race last year, suffered two unfortunate incidences this season costing him two wins in TMS and Chengdu. His car will only carry 40Kg so he represents the best chance for the team to stay at a good pace for this race.
John Ling, Team Manager indicated, "As the season moves on, things are getting more interesting race by race. First, we have to find a solution to face the fact that we are being the first team to carry 140 kg penalty. Secondly, although we are not running in the same class, I think the pressure is getting higher and higher and the time frame is getting closer and closer for FASC and the promoter to find a good solution to control and more importantly, monitor the Turbo engine performance so it is within the boundary of the rule written. Finally, I think the TV crew has to find a way to work out how the TV coverage works. They have to do better in fine tuning the timing in balancing (a) TV coverage among all the teams evenly and (b) taking the risk of not covering where the action is.
