Oct 9th, 2010, the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) enjoyed with its’ fans the first ever street race at Beijing Olympic Aquatic Park.
Martin Cao, from Changan Ford racing team, set 1:23.494 and grabbed the pole position in 2000cc class, while Liu Yang, from Beijing Hyundai racing team, qualified pole in 1600cc class with 1:31.068.
4 poles out of 6 races, Martin Cao impressed everyone
The qualifying session of CTCC Race 6 started at 4 in the afternoon. It was the first street race for the championship and the drivers were very careful when they first hit the track. Martin Cao, the young gun sent by Changan Ford racing team, showed good shape from his 2nd try and let the timetable to the end.
Lo Ka Chun (DF-KIA 778 racing team), Andy Yan (Changan Ford racing team) and Michael Ho (Hua Yang racing team) started good fight during the qualifying session. Ho qualified 2nd, while Lo and Yan 3rd and 4th, respectively.
Home turf race for Liu Yang
The 1600cc qualify saw Han Han and Wang Rui (Shanghai VW 333 Racing team) in shape from the very beginning. Han Han set 1:32.137 at 2nd try and led the session for several laps. Liu Yang, from Beijing Hyundai racing team, set 1:31.068 to take the pole from Han, and Han settled for 2nd.
Sun Zheng, the young driver from DF-Nissan Ghia racing team, qualified 3rd, while his teammate Guo Haisheng 8th.
The CTCC street show will start at 12:33 on Sunday and information has it that the championship will feature rolling start for the first time. Stay tuned for more.
