2017 Sinopec China Touring Car Championship saw a successful fourth round in Shanghai Tianma Circuit on July 9th. In the Super Cup, SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing’s Zhang Zhendong won the first race, while his teammate Jiang Tengyi finished 2nd and BAIC Shenbao Racing’s David Zhu finished 3rd.

BAIC Shenbao Racing’s Zhu Hu’an finished 1st in the second race, while SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing’s Zhang Zhendong finished 2nd and Changan Ford Racing Team’s Andy Yan finished 3rd.

In the China Cup， GAC-Totoya Team’s Liu Yang topped the podium in the first race, with FAW Totoya Vios FS Racing’s Cui Yue finishing 2nd and Zongheng Racing’s Jin Bian finishing 3rd.

In the second race, GAC-Totoya Team’s three drivers Lin Lifeng, Zhang Hanbiao and Liu Yang finished top three, without giving any chances to their closest opponents.

Sun Chujun, Secretary of the Party Committee of Sheshan Town of Songjiang District , Shanghai，Xia Qing, Vice President of Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Sports of China, Jin Dongyun，Director of The Tourism Bureau of Songjiang District, Shanghai and Kong Linde, Director of The Sports Bureau of Song Jiang District, Shanghai attended the opening ceremony in the noon.

Super Cup: SAIC Volkswagen Won the Home Race

In the race weekend, SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing’s Zhang Zhendong finished 1st in the first race and 2nd in the second race, giving him a good position in the championship. According to the reverse grid regulation, Zhang started from 12th in the second race. With a good start and following overtakes, he climbed up to 2nd. Thanks to Zhang and his teammates’ significant performances, SAIC Volkswagen won the Manufacture’s Champion in the first race.

Subject to the impact of Balance Of Performance regulation, Changan Ford Racing Team and Dongfeng Yueda Kia Racing couldn’t make any breakthrough on this small and tricky track. Even worse, the two teams lost three cars respectively in the huge accident happened in the second race. Yuan Bo, Dongfeng Yueda Kia Racing’s only surviver finished 4th in the second race. Changan Ford Racing Team’s Andy Yan finished 6th and 2nd in two races. After this dramatic weekend, SAIC Volkswagen narrowed the gap with the championship leader Changan Ford in the battle for the Manufacture Trophy. With a winner and a 5th position brought by David Zhu and his brother Zhu Hu’an, BAIC Shenbao Racing welcomed their first win in the fight for the Manufacture Champion, making them the fourth manufacture team who topped the podium of Manufacture. Haima Qiangdongli Racing’s best result in this weekend was contributed by Chen Xu who finished 4th in the first race.

China Cup: GAC-Toyoto Saw A Huge Success

With Liu Yang and Lin Lifeng’s victories, GAC-Toyota Team’s became the first team who won two races in one weekend. After the last race of the first half season, GAC-Toyota Team held a giant advantage with a gap of 30 points. Though  FAW Totoya won the Manufacture Champion of the first race, GAC-Toyota was even better in the second race, bringing home the Manufacture Champion with three podium finishes.

Meanwhile, Liu Yang has got more than 100 points so far, meaning he will get double rewards weight in the rest events of the season. Zongheng Racing’s Jin Bian finished 3rd in the first race. Jin’s teammate Yang Xi finished second, but was disqualified later due to the weight loss caused by oil tank leaking.

LEO109 Team and EYEE Fengchao Racing won the Team’s Champion respectively. Thanks to the win, LEO109 expanded their leading gap. EYEE Fengchao Racing’s new comer Yang Xiaowei displayed his impressive competitiveness through the contest with the veterans,

2017 Sinopec China Touring Car Championship will take a one-month summer break after Sheshan weekend. The next event will be taken place in Shanghai International Circuit on August 5th and 6th. Stay tuned!
