The CTCC R1 was completed under rain storm condition on May 12th in Zhuhai International Circuit. Starting 4th on the grid, Rainey He secured the runner-up position after a dramatic race.
Heavy rain started just before the warm up lap and by the time the cars finished the warm up lap, race control had to declare a 10 minutes delay for tire change.
Martin Xie, the pole sitter, driving the number 4 Ford New Focus, made a perfect start and maintained his lead into T1.
Lap 3 will be a lap that the team would love to forget. Martin Xie was consistently increasing his lead from the pack but this aggressive speed was proven to be a mistake under this kind of weather condition. He slide off into the gravel and retired from the race. Tengyi Jiang, in the meantime, crashed into Andy Yan, his teammate, and parked his car with a damaged front suspension.
Safety car was deployed after the accidents. Andy Yan, who was sitting third, kept a stable pace at first but he hit Rainey He, his teammate and damaged both cars heavily. He was losing engine coolant which forced him to come into the pit and retired.
Rainey managed to finish the race in second place and gained valuable seven points for the team. The team is only one point behind the leader and will work hard to fight for better result May 26th in Shanghai International Circuit.
