Under sunny weather, Andy Yan continued his strong showing in the week and took the Pole Postion for R2 of the 2013 CTCC season.
The promoter decided to use configuration 4 of the Shanghai F1 circuit for this round of the competition. This 2.201km configuration has only 11 turns but the Sunday 28-lap race should provide plenty of actions to the spectators with this short set up.
In the mornings practices, Changan Ford Racing Team driver Andy Yan dominated the time sheet and his teammates Tengyi Jiang and Martin Xie had some troubles dealing with the tight segment 3 comparing to the smaller size opponents.
The qualifying began in the afternoon at 16:30 and the New Focus bolted from pit lane immediately to make sure of getting a clear track in front of them. Andy Yan took the top spot for a brief moment then all the Focus came back into the pit and changed tires. Andy got his best time with his new rubber and no one can beat his time after that.
Unfortunately both Tengyi Jiang and Martin Xie ran into traffic after the new tire change and could not improve their time. Both of them will start from third row for tomorrow’s race. Rainey He was suffering from boost issue and could only master a time good enough to start from the sixth row.
Pole sitter Andy Yan indicated in press conference, “I had a big crash last race but my team repaired it within a week so I’d like to thank them for the hard work. Also it took me a bit more time to find the right set up for this new track so I am really happy to get the pole position for tomorrow’s race. I hope I can have a good performance tomorrow and get a win to reward my team”
Paul Hui, Team Director
“Really happy to see Andy bounced back this way and happy to see my friend Pascal’s car claimed the second grid position for tomorrow’s race. Not only he supplied a good performance and I think he also provided the best quote of the day “ I forgot to install my FIA data module”.... will see what the stewards got to say about that.”
