Changan Ford Racing Team won another valuable 12 points on August 25th in Chengdu International Circuit. The team continues to lead the Manufacturer Championship points table as well as the Driver Championship.
After struggling in the Thursday and Saturday morning practice sessions trying to solve the unexpected issues concerning finding a balance for the fast and slow winding sections of the circuit, the Changan Ford Racing Team hit the track Saturday afternoon trying to stay close to the front of the grid as much as possible. Tengyi Jiang and Andy Yan managed to take the 4th and 6th positions while their team mates, Rainey He and Martin Xie could only find enough performance to take 10th and 11th.
Race started on time under slightly cooler temperature than Saturday. Tengyi Jiang made a perfect start and overtook all three VW Polos in front of him and went into T1 leading the race. Although he lost the lead only after one lap but he stayed in second position until lap 12 when the team was hit by tire problems.
Andy Yan was the first to come in to get new rubbers after blowing a tire on lap 11. Jiang Tengyi and Rainey He came in lap 12 for the same problem.
Martin Xie, who started 11th, defended and protected his team mates in front perfectly. But after all his three team mates had to come in for new tires, he suddenly found himself sitting on 4th position and he finished the race and gained eight valuable points for the team.
Paul Hui, Team Director
“I know our team is good at making records and we just did another one this afternoon; with the assistance from our tire supplier, three cars with blown tires within two laps. We did over estimate the capability of the tire to deal with higher weight and I believe the side wall structure just gave up. I had a meeting with the technical group both from the team and from Changan Ford right after the race and we are working hard to find a solution to deal with this situation. See you in Zhouqing.”
