After a tightly contested and slightly disappointed qualifying session, the Changan Ford Racing Team bounced back and achieved what they set out to do Sunday. Martin Xie and Rainey He finished 2nd and 3rd and took another valuable 22 points for the team. The team now needs only to score four more points in R8 of the season in Shanghai International Circuit three weeks from now to take the 6th Manufacturer title for Changan Ford.

The team decided to spend most of the official practice sessions focusing on finding a good race set up knowing the additional ballasts added as a result of the R6 win, will post a huge impact to the performance. The team could only manage to get 4, 7, 10, 11 starting position after Martin Xie was penalized for 5 starting positions due to an incident in R6.
Martin made an absolutely perfect start and move himself into P5 from P11 in lap one. Andy and Tengyi also gained positions and occupied P6 and 7. Chevrolet driver Ken Look, while sitting at P2, missed the braking point on T1, went into the sand and moved himself all the way to the back of the pack in lap 2. Martin passed Rainey on lap 5 and started his challenge to the Polos in front of him. He overtook VW car 7 on lap 7 and started to close up the gap with the leading Polo by 0.3 second per lap. With one lap to go, he was breathing on the back of the Polo but crossed the line only 0.134 second behind. Rainey finished third comfortably.
Tengyi and Andy, with the driver champion on the line, drove conservatively and eliminated the chance of Wang Rui from contesting the driver championship. So the driver championship will be decided in Shanghai and will be WON by a Changan Ford driver.
Paul Hui, Team Director
"The feeling is always much nicer that things work out according to the plan. We focused on getting the driver result for this race and tried to maintain a reasonable point lead for the manufacturer title. The team worked hard to fulfil this request and they delivered the result with perfect execution. We will go to Shanghai to finish the job. See you there!"
