After a long six week break, the Championship springs back into action this weekend with the second consecutive Ordos race in Inner Mongolia for the fifth round of the 2012 season.
After four rounds of competition, Changan Ford Racing Team continues to occupy the top spot of Manufacturer Championship with 86 points, 30 points ahead of VW Team. Tengyi Jiang also holds four point lead in the Driver Championship standing.
But as a result of the weight compensation system, this R5 will be an extremely difficult race of the team after winning three team championships out of four rounds. After winning the team title in R4, another 60kg will be added to all the cars of the team but since Tengyi Jiang was already running maximum weight of 1,280kg in R4, so all other cars in the championship will be reduced 60kg instead. In essence, Jiang Tengyi’s car weight will be between 105 to 280kg heavier than other competitors.
John Ling, Team Manager, “Facing this situation, we are trying to implement some upgrades to the car in order to compensate for this huge weight disadvantage. Also, considering we have never won in GIC (R6) and is still having difficulties solving the mystery of GIC, so our mission is to go out and try our best to gain as many points as possible for this race so we can have more buffer before heading to GIC. ”
