Rainey He and Tengyi Jiang captured the 2nd runner up and fourth respectively, in the 7th round of the the CTCC at the Shanghai Tianma Circuit and gained 18 points for the team which is much more than the three points needed for the team to take home the 2012 CTCC Manufacturer Cup title. This is the fourth title gained by the team in a row and the fifth in the last seven years.
Starting the race with 1,300+kg, Rainey He was instructed to race conservatively to save the tires and he gave up the lead to a few aggressive Chevrolet and Polos after a few laps. Seeing the three cars ahead of him are losing grip at the later stage of the race, he started pushing and he overtook one Polo and was on the tail of Ken Look’s Chevrolet before the race is completed.
Rainey He, “ Very good race for the team and congratulation to the team for doing it again. Winning a championship is tough but planning and executing to win four times in a row is even more difficult. We need to thank the Changan Ford organization for the huge support provided to us. We knew the Chevy and Polo’s tires will suffer but I think we misjudged the weather a bit today. Their tire performance did deteriorate but not early enough. give me one or two laps, I should be able to take the second place back.”
Rainey’s teammate Jiang Tengyi, who also was carrying the same car weight performed steadily during the race, finish fourth after starting at seventh, gained another valuable 8 points for himself in the hunt for the driver’s title.
After the Team Championship mission is completed, the team now turns its attention to assist Rainey He, Tengyi Jiang and Andy Yan to fight for the driver’s title in the last round of the season three weeks from now in the world famous Shanghai International Circuit. The weight compensation disadvantage will be improved slightly for the Changan Ford New Focus but still be in the 100kg range.
