China’s Ningbo Witnessed a Thrilling WTCC&CTCC Weekend

The brand new Ningbo International Circuit witnessed a thrilling race weekend with the celebrated FIA World Touring Car Championship and China Touring Car Championship as well as supporting races like FIA F4 and Chinese Racing Cup on Oct 15th. Audiences and fans all over the world enjoyed the races through live screaming.

In the second race of 2017 Sinopec China Touring Car Championship’s Super Cup held on Sunday, Dongfeng Yueda Kia Racing’s Alex Fontana finished 1st, while BAIC Shenbao Racing’s Daniel Lloyd finished 2nd and SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing’s Robert Huff finished 3rd. Dongfeng Yueda Kia Racing also clinched the Manufacturer Champion.

In China Cup, GAC-Toyota Team’s Liu Yang won the first race while his teammate Deng Baowei finished 3rd. FAW Totoya Vios FS Racing’s Fan Gaoxiang finished 2nd. In the second race, GAC-Toyota Team’s Lin Lifeng topped the podium, EYEE Fengchao Racing’s Zhu Zhenyu finished 2nd and FAW Totoya Vios FS Racing’s Sun Chao finished 3rd. Thanks to the significant performance in the two races, GAC-Toyota won the Manufacturer Champion in both races.

Super Cup: Wet Challenge for the Brave

In the second race of Super Cup, the top three were all foreign drivers. According to the reverse grid regulation involving top 12 drivers in the first race, Dongfeng Yueda Kia Racing’s Alex Fontana started from the pole, while Robert Huff, the winner in the first race, and Daniel Lloyd, the 2nd in the first race started from the sixth row.

The race was led by safety car due to the heavy rain. Dongfeng Yueda Kia Racing’s Zhang Zhiqiang started from the 4th. With a clear start, he overtook several opponents and climbed up to the second position, right behind his teammate Alex Fontana. Meanwhile, SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing’s world champion Robert Huff fought harder from lap 3 and made it to the 5th position within one lap. Then Huff kept pushing hard  to chase the two cars from Changan Ford Racing Team. In the end, Robert Huff finished 3rd.

 

Dongfeng Yueda Kia Racing’s Alex Fontana used the similar strategy as Robert Huff and clinched 2nd after passing several competitors. Changan Ford Racing Team’s Andy Yan finished 4th, while all his teammates finished within top 10. Haima Qiangdongli Racing’s He Zixian also finished with points. In this changeable rainy race, both foreign drivers and Chinese drivers showcased their high expertise and strong nerves.

 

 

China Cup: Private Teams Seizing Opportunities

China Cup started early at 7:40am on Sunday morning. It rained so heavily that there was barely any vision, making the drivers feel like driving in the dark. GAC-Toyota Team’s Liu Yang won the face even with the damaged car from the accident in the race. FAW Totoya Vios FS Racing’s Fan Gaoxiang started from the 10th and finished 2nd.

In the second race held in the afternoon, EYEE Fengchao Racing’s Zhu Zhenyu got a podium finish by beating the strong contestants from the manufacture teams. GAC-Toyota won the Manufacturer Champion in both races, with the strong lineups of Liu Yang, Deng Baowei and Lin Lifeng. Sun Chao brought home a 3rd for FAW Totoya Vios FS Racing. After this round, there are only four races left, which means a super-heat fight for the manufacture champion can be expected between the two manufacture teams.

LEO109 Team’s Li Lin finished 5th and 4th in the two races respectively, only a step away from the podium.
