The third round of CTCC China Touring Car Championship was held in Shanghai International Speed Festival at Sheshan on June 23. In Super Cup, Dongfeng Yueda Kia Racing Team’s Cao Hongwei won the second race held on Sunday, while BAIC Racing Team’s David Zhu and Adam Morgan finished the 2nd and 3rd respectively. In China Cup, Zongheng Racing Team’s Yang Fan won the race, while Xing Zhi Lu Racing Team’s Sun Anning finished the 2nd. Dongfeng Fengshen Racing Team’s Yang Xi got the last podium position. This is also the first time that he finished with top three in this season. The TAG Heuer Speed Award went to Cao Hongwei and Sun Anning.
Super Cup: Cao Hongwei Won His First Victory of 2019
Dongfeng Yueda Kia Racing Team’s Cao Hongwei started from pole position, but dropped to the back due to an unsuccessful start. He chased hard and managed to overtake all the competitors in the 27-lap race. His impressive move in the last lap by overtaking the fastest rival David Zhu secured the victory for himself. There is not much chances to overtake in Tianma Circuit. What Cao has achieved in the race was quite persuasive.
Once the race started, BAIC Racing Team was in a good position. As time went by, the tires ran out quickly. The team’s driver David Zhu only managed to finish the 2nd. Thanks to Zhu’s teammate Adam Morgan’s 3rd place, BAIC Racing Team won the Manufacturers’ Champion of Super Cup. SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing Team’s Zhang Zhendong climbed up to the 4th from the back and continued to expand his advantage in the standings. In addition, GAC Toyota Racing Team’s Sun Chao finished with points again after winning the 3rd place in the race on previous day.
China Cup: Yang Fan Brought Back His Third Wins of This Season
In China Cup, Yang Fan won the race on Sunday, keeping consequent victories record so far in the past three rounds of this season. Xing Zhi Lu Racing Team’s Sun Anning started from the pole position, but was not able to convert the pole to victory, finishing the 2nd instead. Dongfeng Fengshen Racing Team’s Yang Xi finished the 3rd with Yixuan, a self-designed car model by the Chinese car manufacturer. Yang Xi said, he would focus on improving and do his best to narrow the gap between himself and other competitors. He hopes he could write a new legend in CTCC, together with Dongfeng Fengshen.
Chinese Racing Cup also joined the weekend. The top three went to Shanghai CJ Racing Team’s Chang Jiong, Chongqnig Hengkui Team-HMK’s Pu Shu and Nanjing K2 Racing Team’s Cheng Tao.
Shanghai Tianma Circuit is small but complete, the rich events and activities in paddock allow the audiences touch the magic of motorsport in person. Thanks to CTCC's huge broadcasting network including CCTV, Max TV and Guangdong Sports TV, and other live streaming sources, fans are able to monitor the race up-to-date. In the first weekend of July, CTCC will visit Zhejiang International Circuit in Shaoxing for the first time.
