The plan was also to add five Peugeot 307s under the “Genghis Khan Grand Prix” banner, but they eventually did not take part in the race.
The race was delayed by ten minutes due to a sudden rainstorm. Martin Xie’s was then unable to start his Ford Focus for the formation lap and fell to last place place.
Andy Yan led the race from the start. Zhang Zhen Dong passed Rainey He for fourth on lap four, and Wang Rue and Guo Hua Yang of Shanghai VW 333 Racing passed the spinning Kia of Michael Soong on the same lap to rise to seventh and eighth places.
Reigning champion Han Han had advanced to sixth position by lap eight and was trying to pass Rainey He, with Guo Hua Yang and Wang Rue following close behind. Han finally passed He on lap 11 with Guo following suit, but He was able to fight back to fifth position later in the race.
Andy Yan won the race finally after leading all 16 laps, with his team-mate Jiang Tengyi finishing second whilst under constant attack from the Kia of Huang Chu Han. Yan extended his advantage in the drivers’ championship leader to 45 points, whilst Wang Rue of Shanghai VW 333 Racing is now ranked second on 29 points.
Chang’an Ford FRD Team also extended its lead in the manufacturers’ championship.
The fifth round of the CTCC will be held on August 25th at Chengdu Goldenport Circuit.
