Last weekend in Chengdu International circuit, Tengyi Jiang and Andy Yan collected two trophies for their 1-2 finish. This result propelled Changan Ford Racing Team ‘s lead to 26 points for the Manufacturers Championship, 26 points ahead of Team VW 333. Jiang also leads the driver championship with 32 total points.
For two years in a row, the race was ran under wet condition. The organizer decided to start the race using the safety car format. After the safety car entered the pit lane, Changan Ford Racing Team drivers Tengyi Jiang, who was on pole, and his team mates Andy Yan and Rainey He pulled away immediately from the group.
Gaoxiang Fan, who started on fifth position, also applied pressure to Han Han’s Polo and tried for overtaking for a few laps but with no success. In the meantime, the two G-Racing Cruzes are closing in on them quickly. Fan lost control of his car briefly on lap 13 giving the opportunity for the two G-Racing Cruze drivers to overtake him. By using his more superior handling Ford Focus, he fought back and retook the fourth position with only 2 laps to go.
Rainey He, who was sitting comfortably on 3rd position, reported back to the team that he might be losing air pressure on the right front tire which was affecting his handling greatly and his lead over the Polo reducing fast. His tire eventually blown in the last lap but still managed to cross the finish line in 7th place, gaining himself another four points.
When the checkered flag was shown, Jiang won the race without any suspense, Andy Yan the first runner-up, Fan was fourth and Rainey was seventh.
The Championship will travel to Ordos, Inner Mongolia for its fourth meeting of the season on July 8th.
