After enjoying a great 1-2 win in the third round of the 2012 China Touring Car Championship season in Chengdu two weekends ago, this weekend sees Changan Ford Racing Team making its way to Inner Mongolia for the first time this year to compete in the Race of Ordos. Changan Ford Racing Team currently is leading the Manufacturer Championship by 26 points and Tengyi Jiang has 32 points on top of the Driver Championship points table.
Ordos International Circuit is positioned in an area that has very little trees around. Based on the experience from the previous two years, the blowing sand definitely will play a funny trick by causing very inconsistent surface grip level on different parts of the circuit. Combining with the design of the track; 18 turns including several double-apex in first sector, several high speed corners in the last sector and the 32m drops height between these two sectors, this circuit demands strong set up skill to find the correct balance of the cars.
According to this season’s new weight compensation rules, the four New Ford Focus will be the four heaviest cars on the track. After winning in Changdu, Tengyi Jiang ‘s race car will run with a minimum weight of 1,280Kg which is 65 - 100 kg more than the VW Polos and 170 kg more than the Chevrolet Cruze. Although Tengyi is undefeated in Ordos in the past two years, but with this huge car weight disadvantage, it could be an extremely tough race for him to keep his “Khan” title.
“The only thing I want to say is that we will fight till the end to claim the trophies no matter how hard of the situation is in Ordos.” John Ling, the team manager indicated, “Hot weather, sand, car weight, the Federation, the organizer; nothing can stop us from trying our best to win the Championship. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going! ”
