On June 3, the third round of SINOPEC China Touring Car Championship 2018 was held in Guangdong International Circuit in Zhaoqing. In the Super Cup, BAIC Shenbao Racing Team’s David Zhu won the race, while Dongfeng Yueda Kia Racing Team’s Zhang Zhiqiang and Ye Hongli finished the 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the China Cup, GAC Toyota Racing Team’s Zhang Hanbiao and Liu Yang finished the 1st and 2nd, while LEO Racing Team’s Zheng Shangguan finished 3rd. Thanks to Zhang Hanbiao and Liu Yang’s outstanding performances, GAC Toyota won the Manufactures’ Champion. The TAG Heuer Speed Award of Zhaoqing went to Zhang Zhiqiang and Yang Xi from Zongheng Racing Team.
Distinguished guests also joined this extremely exciting party on the track. They are: Lin Jie, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Automobile Sports of the People’s Republic of China (CAMF); Cui Jianjun, General Manager of Beijing Motor Sports Development Company; Zhou Chun, Director of Sports Channel at Guangdong TV and Vice Director of Sports Bureau of Guangdong Province and Xia Yanqing, Vice Director of Zhaoqing Sports Bureau.
Super Cup: David Zhu Won the Intense Battle
In the Sunday race, SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing Team’s Yang Fan started from the pole, ahead of BAIC Shenbao Racing Team’s David Zhu. David overtook Yang immediately after the start, while his teammate and younger brother Juan Zhu stopped on the track almost at the same time. Darryl O’Young, the third driver of BAIC Shenbao Racing Team was surrounded by four SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing Team’s cars. In lap 4, an accident involved six cars called out the safety car. When the race rejoined in lap 8, David Zhu has already made a comfortable lead.
When the race came to the last one third part, Changan Ford Racing Team’s He Xiaole and Rodolvo Avila were involved in the second accident, blocking the track. Luckily, Dongfeng Yueda Kia Racing’s Zhang Zhiqiang and Ye Hongli were able to keep themselves away from the chaos and finished the 2nd and the 3rd.
China Cup: Zhang Hanbiao Topped the Podium
In the Sunday race of China Cup, EYEE Racing Team’s Zhou Bihuang ran off the track right after the start. His teammate Lai Boge used this opportunity and climbed up to the 1st. Behind them, Zongheng Racing Team’s Yan Chuang and Motive Racing Team’s Wu Pei fought hard for the third position. As the race went on, Lai Boge lost the lead due to technical issues. Liu Yang started from behind but was able to climbed up to the front later. LEO Racing Team’s Zheng Shangguan and his teammate Li Huiwei were able to defend their position. In the end of the race, Yan Chuang, who had been defending well, ran into the sands and gave his lead to Zhang Hanbiao.
Apart from the thrilling races, the cheerful activities like tyre-change challenge also gave the fans an occasion to further understand motorsport.
